apple problem
I'm having a little trouble understanding the scenario of the apple problem here:

a few questions that come to my mind are, are we allowed to count the number of apples in each basket? We have "a set of scales" but does this mean more than one device with which to compare two baskets? If so, how many scales do we have?
Just thought a little more clarity might be a good idea. 
A logarithm is just a misspelled algorithm.

"Scales" could mean a direct weighing device, or a balance beam style ... so maybe I should make that clearer.
