Minor Upgrade to Forum (April 07)

Just security enhancements and other tidy ups. Hopefully nothing anyone will notice. Report problems here.

Re: Minor Upgrade to Forum (April 07)

Well... I decided to sign out for a tiny bit, and I decided to start a new account called Deep Grey. When I was logged onto the Deep Grey account, I couldn't see the Members Only part of the forum! Is it now only avalible to any members above the rank of novice?

Re: Minor Upgrade to Forum (April 07)

I don't know. Maybe I should log in as a guest. Brb

Edit:Yes it does get rid of the members only. It shows only the suggestions and comments but not the members only part in the last forum.

Re: Minor Upgrade to Forum (April 07)

Well, yes, being a guest would get rid of the Member's Only bit. Because you're not logged in as a member.

Any member should be able to see Member's Only though, no matter how many posts they have.

Why did the vector cross the road?
It wanted to be normal.

Is the indicator on the bottom left of each post (under the user’s avatar) that tells you whether the user is online or offline one of the new upgrade features? neutral

Re: Minor Upgrade to Forum (April 07)

No, it was there before. The upgrade was mostly minor security stuff. I (and many others) are still waiting for the next major release of the forum software (1.3).

It was there before? Why didn’t I notice it there before? eek

Well, I’m fairly happy with the forum capabilities as they are now, but I’ll wait and find out what even better features the next release will bring. smile

Just for fun, what features could you imagine?

Re: Minor Upgrade to Forum (April 07)

Well, an Ignore Post and/or Ignore Thread feature would certainly be handy. I just select the posts/threads I don’t like, press a button, and hey presto! I never have to see them again! tongue

Better still, have an Ignore Poster feature … roll

Re: Minor Upgrade to Forum (April 07)

Earlier we discussed subforums, for forums such as the exercises, which would help organize them a little. Is this a possibility yet?

Re: Minor Upgrade to Forum (April 07)

Jane: maybe if you could choose which forums you see/don't see? Just stargazing here.

Zhy: yes, that would be nice, I am not sure if 1.3 will support that, but I hope so.

Re: Minor Upgrade to Forum (April 07)

I don’t mind seeing all the forums I am allowed to see. Just not the spam posts/threads I’m not interested in. neutral

(BTW, the 100-character rule for postcount isn’t reducing spam that much, is it? The number of useless posts seems to be the same as before, just that we’re getting 100-character ones instead of 3-character ones.)

Yep, we probably need to make it stricter. I suggested 250 characters or more in another thread.

I have not been experiencing any forum difficulties, by the way.

Remember, a while ago we discussed having 'karma'? I think that's a good thing to add, if possible.

Maybe a feature that allowed you to have a list of friends who are members on this forum.

By the way, nice avatar MathsIsFun! up What kind of dog is it?
