Earth Hour

Received a message about this event in an email, and thought it was an interesting idea ...

At 7.30pm on 31 March 2007, we are inviting Sydneysiders - businesses and individuals - to turn off their lights for just one hour, Earth Hour, as a sign of their commitment to reduce global warming.

Earth Hour is just the start of a campaign that aims to reduce Sydney's greenhouse emissions by 5% in 2007. The event will demonstrate how simple actions can make the world of difference if everyone takes part. And it sends a powerful message that we care about the future of the planet.

This year's Earth Hour will happen in Sydney, but we hope that Earth Hour can grow into a global campaign. If you live outside of Sydney, you can show your support by joining us and turning off your lights at 7.30pm local time.

Anyone going to do it and sign up? It doesn't just have to be for Sydneysiders ... big_smile

Re: Earth Hour

I may do it, that is, if I don't have to turn off every single one of my appliances that uses electrical current and electricity.

I'll do it!

Re: Earth Hour

What do they do about street lights? Does this mean my night scene at World Time Zones will be wrong?

I'm gonna load up all my computers in spite of this effort.

Boy let me tell you what:
I bet you didn't know it, but I'm a fiddle player too.
And if you'd care to take a dare, I'll make a bet with you.

Re: Earth Hour

You heard about it on television?

This reminds me of those 'bus-riders' who ride buses and go around saving the environment.

But buses damage the environment anyway, so there isn't any point.

Pfft.

Re: Earth Hour

Well, loads of things damage the atomasphere. Here's the Pollution Cycle:

When no electronics were around, the Earth had perfect weather and no hurricanes or tsunamis big_smile
But when TVs, cars, lorries, buses and aeroplanes were introduced, they used Carbon Dioxide to power them so it got into the atomasphere sad
Even cows and fridges help, they get methane into the atomasphere
The weather is affected, causing the extreme weather yikes
So who's to blame for global warming? shame

P.S: I live in Melbourne, but I still took part in Earth Hour smile

"Good on Ya!"

By the way, I think there were hurricanes, etc, before electronics, even before Modern Man evolved.

I actually forgot to take part in it. It was an hour-and-a-half later that I realised that I had missed the Earth Hour.

Re: Earth Hour

Earth Hour may go global. It's just to help get rid of some of the gases and coal in the atomasphere.

Ehm, I'd hate to burst everyone's bubble, but you're going to have to wait another year to participate. Earth Hour is long gone.

Re: Earth Hour

I suppose the real 'idea' coming from this (as corny as it sounds) is that we can all make a difference. You don't just have to conserve during a single hour. We should be doing these things all the time if we really want to change the world.

So if you wanted to have your own 'earth hour', or 'earth [insert-time-frame-here]', go ahead, there's nothing to stop you.

So, by this statement, you're also saying that it will make a difference?

Re: Earth Hour

I may have stated this in millions of other threads, but...

My campaign called World Changer is on right now. If you want to sign up, go to Members Only under a post that says,
"The World Changer Campaign, by Yours Truly" by 9:00 AM Melbourne time I'll see who decided to sign up and I will update the list. So far only Tigeree and JaneFairfax are helping- anyone else want to help wipe away all the Earth's bad stuff? i.e wars, bullying, global warming, etc.
