Re: Harry Potter

In general I don't read many books nowadays... I remember in grade 6 I had borrowed around 70 books during the entire year... but now I only read what the required school texts are...

Re: Harry Potter

Harry Potter, as Rora, said is original. It wasn't stolen. The whole concept of Witches and Wizards is an old one and you can't really "steal it". It's been stated that JKR put Wizards and Witches in a new light. It's quite true. Things like Worst Witch? They used Potions, like the stereotypical witches of old yore. A wizard in a book like Tolkien's is a mysterious wise-old sage, rather more than a real weilder of magic, even though they did in subtler ways.

JK has the idea that Wizards are natural casters, what is known as a Sorcerer actually, and should focus these energies they can wield through a wand, generally made from bits and bobs of old creatures.

HOWEVER. Eragorn is just another story like, say, Dragonriders of Pern. It's not original. It's not big. It's not clever. Eragorn made a good film, I'm not disputing that, but it lacks the true originality. Don't go throwing things like "omg not original" about things that are, before you know the whole things about ones you call original. Eragorn has a lot of Tolkien aspects to it as well.

However, Harry Potter books are getting too big and I can't be bothered to read them again. I'll read the whole book in one day, then discard it. The only one with a truely good building of that dark atomsphere I tend to like is the third, Prisoner of Azkaban. 'twas good. The film adapation was good to, especially with Gary Oldman as that guy.

Boy let me tell you what:
I bet you didn't know it, but I'm a fiddle player too.
And if you'd care to take a dare, I'll make a bet with you.

Re: Harry Potter

The spells sound are so corny:
Alo Hamora!
Wingardio Leviosum! (or something)
Expecto Patronum!
Harry Potter's all a bit too hollywood for me. I cringe every time I see an ad where Harry is screaming out "EXPECTO PATRONUM" at the top of his lungs. Can't they quieten down a bit, sheesh...

Re: Harry Potter

The Harry Potter books you can only read once after once you get extremely bored. And the movies make no sense.
