Roots of Real Numbers

I need some help with this stuff. I get how to do the easy ones, but then they start adding letters and I get way confused. Here are a few problems I'm talking about.

4√z^8
√25x^4y^6
³√(p+q)³
Thanks in advance for the help.

Re: Roots of Real Numbers

Just try to remember the general rules.

Now just move all the "stuff" around so you can use this rule.

To make it more clear, just "label" something a:

"In the real world, this would be a problem.  But in mathematics, we can just define a place where this problem doesn't exist.  So we'll go ahead and do that now..."

Re: Roots of Real Numbers

Another useful one is that

.

Also remember that cube roots cancel out cubes, 4th roots cancel out powers of 4 and so on.

Why did the vector cross the road?
It wanted to be normal.
