Re: Ramanujan's "Mock Theta Functions" solved

Man, this dude really was on a completely different plane of existance to everybody else. I'm reading the wikipedia article, and it makes no sense to my mortal brain.

Nice find

Re: Ramanujan's "Mock Theta Functions" solved

Ramanujan is my favorite mathematician second to Euler. His works are unbelievable, the man was pure talent. I'm going to try to find the 3 papers mentioned in that article. I'll post them here if I can.

Whats crazy is he died at 32. I believe Riemann also died at about that age. Imagine what these people could have done if they'd lived for 70 to 100 years!

The article says it has applications to physics, chemistry and many other areas, but does anyone know precisly what it allows us to do?

A logarithm is just a misspelled algorithm.

Re: Ramanujan's "Mock Theta Functions" solved

To know everything in Mathematics would be like trying to know everyone in Manhattan. But when you get a story like this one, you can appreciate it from the outside.
