Help with Algebra ratio/proportion problem

Can anyone please help me with the following problem (thanks in advance):

If 25 feet of a certain type of cable weighs 3 1/8, how much will 56 feet of cable weigh?

Is the resulting problem:

25 / 3 1/8 = 56/x  (25 over 3 1/8 = 56 over x)

And if so, how do I solve for x??

Re: Help with Algebra ratio/proportion problem

Multiply 56 by (3 + 1/8) then divide by 25.

It's cross multiplying.
a/b = c/d
ad = bc
