Maths book recommendations for an adult

Hi,

I'm from the UK, I enjoyed Maths at school, and was pretty good at it, I got a B in my GCSEs.  I haven't done much maths since leaving school 11 years ago, and would like to brush up my old skills and learn some new ones.  I'd especially like to learn how to make sense of the symbols used in equations; there's many a time I've looked something up on Wikipedia only to be faced with an equation full of symbols that I can't figure out.

So I'm basically looking for an easy to read book that deals with things from about the level of quadratic equations upwards.  Any advice?

Me too.  Any really creative books with lots of cool examples and reasons would be of help for me too, on any math area.

Is an exceptionally well written book. There are many and this is one of the very best. Clear, creative and unpatrionising.
