distance
find the distance from the point (3,-7) to the line x = -1.

y ≠ -x + b.
y doesn't relate to x at all, because x is always -1.
And because x is always -1, then a point with an x coordinate of 3 is [3-(-1)=] 4 away from the line.
Why did the vector cross the road?
