Sum of positive integers 0 to NI am looking for different ways to answer this problem? #2 2005-05-12 16:39:56
Re: Sum of positive integers 0 to NOff the top of my head, you can do it with one multiplication. Middle-Value times N. "The physicists defer only to mathematicians, and the mathematicians defer only to God ..." - Leon M. Lederman #3 2005-05-14 04:34:31
Re: Sum of positive integers 0 to NI have learned this formula before. It is connected with mathematical induction. German mathematician Gauss, when he was 7 years old, thought of this formula. His teacher told students to find the sum of numbers, starting from 1 to 100. He thought that students won't finish it in next 30 minutes, but Gauss did. n(n+1)/2 where n is the last number. |
