Re: 2006 Ig Nobel Awards

the link wasnt working, but wiki has lots on the subject... my favs are

Chemistry, 1993 - Presented jointly to James Campbell and Gaines Campbell of Lookout Mountain, Tennessee, dedicated deliverers of fragrance, for inventing scent strips, the odious method by which perfume is applied to magazine pages.

how did we manage without these guys?

Mathematics, 1993 - Presented to Robert W Faid of Greenville, South Carolina, farsighted and faithful seer of statistics, for calculating the exact odds (710,609,175,188,282,000 to 1) that Mikhail Gorbachev is the Antichrist.

im glad that's sorted out.

Astrophysics, 2001 - Presented to Dr. Jack Van Impe and Rexella Van Impe of Jack Van Impe Ministries, Rochester Hills, Michigan, for their discovery that black holes fulfill all the technical requirements for the location of Hell.

well these guys won't be heading there, so they don't have to worry anyway

Interdisciplinary Research, 2002 - Presented to Karl Kruszelnicki of The University of Sydney, for performing a comprehensive survey of human belly button fluff -- who gets it, when, what color, and how much.

ive actually met this guy a few times... interesting work too!

it's all quite hilarious.

The link isn't working because their servers are overloaded! Try again and it may get through.

You met the belly fluff guy? How?

Re: 2006 Ig Nobel Awards

So the Belly Button Lint Guy is actually Dr Karl Kruszelnicki?!

Yes, Dr Karl is quite well known in Australia. He writes a column for the Age (major Victorian newspaper) and for other science magazines and periodicals.

He's also written many books. I have one, which I also won. It's called: 'Munching Maggots, Noah's Flood and TV Heart Attacks and other cataclysmic science moments'. Quite a catchy title, don't ya reckon?

He talks weekly on radio I think ... can't remember which, but I'm pretty sure.

That's all I really know!
