Help me solve plz !!

the sum of 6 times johns age and 8 times kathys age is 162. kathy is 1 year more than twice as old as john. Find each of their ages. ????
I need two equations with two variables to solve !!!

call johns age x, and kathys age y

then you have
6x + 8y = 162
y = 2x + 1

6x + 8(2x + 1) = 162
22x = 154
x = 7, y = 2*7 + 1 = 15

i agree with luca-deltodesco  solution ,
we will form two equation as he did , then solve the two equ. to gother .
6x + 8y = 162
y = 2x + 1
