Help with SAT question?

Hi mathisfun, I have been having trouble with a SAT problem.
A 25 passenger bus rents for 110$ and a 40 passenger bus rents for 170. What is the minimum cost of renting enough buses for a trip with 475 passengers?
I am having difficulty with finding out how to maximize..

Re: Help with SAT question?

Hi;

Let a be a 25 passenger bus and b be a 40 passenger bus.

You have to minimize 110a + 170b subject to the constraint 25a + 40b = 475

I get 3 of the 25 passenger bus and 10 of the 40 passenger bus for a cost of $2030.

In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them.
If it ain't broke, fix it until it is.
Always satisfy the Prime Directive of getting the right answer above all else.
