More valid than panspermia?

In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them.

I do not know because I do not know what panspermia is.

Heard of the great Svante Arrhenius?

Well, the final touches of panspermia were done by Svante.

Which components of evolution does it try to change?

Re: Religion with science

Natural selection is kaboobly doo. Mathematically to have evolved this eco-system just by random chance would take over 10^150 years. Since the age of the earth is far younger than that it is very unlikely that this occurred just by the random collisions of molecules.

Re: Religion with science

I don't think so. Genetic Algorithms converge pretty first.

Natural selection is not thr only idea in Darwin's theory. You're ignoring survival of the fittest.

Re: Religion with science

I don't understand.

If you can specify the model, I can run the calculations.

Re: Religion with science

Are you aware or Richard Feynman's comments about people who became convinced that physics = math? Same thing goes for assuming that algorithm has anything to do with the real world.

Re: Religion with science

You hd also told zetafunc that what he is doing with his girlfriend is not an algorithm

Feynman wrote:

It will take you some time to understand what should happen in different circumstances. You will have to solve the equations. Each time you solve the equations, you will learn something about the character of the solutions. To keep these solutions in mind, it will be useful also to study their meaning in terms of field lines and of other concepts. This is the way you will really “understand” the equations. That is the difference between mathematics and physics. Mathematicians, or people who have very mathematical minds, are often led astray when “studying” physics because they lose sight of the physics. They say: “Look, these differential equations—the Maxwell equations—are all there is to electrodynamics; it is admitted by the physicists that there is nothing which is not contained in the equations. The equations are complicated, but after all they are only mathematical equations and if I understand them mathematically inside out, I will understand the physics inside out.” Only it doesn’t work that way. Mathematicians who study physics with that point of view—and there have been many of them—usually make little contribution to physics and, in fact, little to mathematics. They fail because the actual physical situations in the real world are so complicated that it is necessary to have a much broader understanding of the equations.

That is what he says in the Vector Calculus chapter.

Do you know what he says in the optics chapter?

Re: Religion with science

I do not, I did not know he had an optics chapter.

Anyway

They fail because the actual physical situations in the real world are so complicated that it is necessary to have a much broader understanding of the equations.

The same goes double for biology and genetics. You should read a thread I posted about it.

Re: Religion with science

Where is the thread?

He has many chapters on Optics, I cannot find where he wrote the quote which I am looking for,

But isn't just mathematics a lot better than the real world?

If you are talking to a formalist it is just a game with no connection to the real world.
