Ain't it the truth.

Hi;

20130120.gif

Mathematicians sure are a pedantic bunch. There is a forum with bunches of em or is it a herd of em, I never get that right, that actually have a thread devoted to whether they should say "Hi" when answering a post. On the other hand I no longer look good in a beard.

In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them.

Re: Ain't it the truth.

Physicists have beards?

'And fun? If maths is fun, then getting a tooth extraction is fun. A viral infection is fun. Rabies shots are fun.'
'God exists because Mathematics is consistent, and the devil exists because we cannot prove it'
I'm not crazy, my mother had me tested.

Re: Ain't it the truth.

I recently saw a physicist without a beard

That is not an amazing discovery, where did you get the idea that all physicists have beards?

Re: Ain't it the truth.

My favorite physicist, Professor Calculus, gave me that idea.

I know, i had been kidding.

Where are math proofs rejected for omitting mechanical steps?

Re: Ain't it the truth.

To get that answer, I would suggest A=B, the introduction will be enough.

Section 1.4 is as close as I can get. There he describes their viewpoints on proofs and what constitutes one.

Re: Ain't it the truth.

The most important part of the proof is missing which the author adds in later.

Both sides obviously satisfy the relations p(n) − p(n − 1) = n^3; p(0) = 0
