Let x=a and x=b be the roots of the equation x^2 - mx + 2 = 0.

Suppose that x=a+\frac 1b and x=b+\frac 1a are the roots of the equation x^2 - px + q = 0.

Determine the value of q.

Do you mean

It looks like you can use sum of roots = -b/a and product of roots = c/a with the usual ax^2 + bx + c = 0 quadratic.
