Minesweeper MathsIsFun StyleI have been working on a game for the last few months (as time permitted) ... I have most of the elements right, but my design is still amateurish. Re: Minesweeper MathsIsFun StyleInteresting. My first impression was, "What?" Then, "Oh. Cool!" Then, "There's a lot more times that you must just guess." Then, "I wonder if there are some mad techniques for guessing?" El que pega primero pega dos veces. #3 20051120 19:20:38
Re: Minesweeper MathsIsFun StyleMathsIsFun minesweeper is better! Character is who you are when no one is looking. #4 20051120 21:46:00
Re: Minesweeper MathsIsFun StyleThe main difference between this and regular minesweeper is that with this, you get all the information at the start and have to use it to deduce where the mines are. In normal minesweeper, you get nothing at the start except a free go, and you uncover information as you uncover safe ground. In minesweeper, you can almost always complete the board with pure logic, but this one needs quite a bit of guesswork. One thing I'm confused about is the number of spades you're given. I can start two games with exactly the same settings, but in one I get 1 spade and in the other I get 2. Why did the vector cross the road? It wanted to be normal. #5 20051120 22:12:50

Re: Minesweeper MathsIsFun StyleI've found 2 glitches now. Last edited by mathsyperson (20051120 23:03:21) Why did the vector cross the road? It wanted to be normal. #7 20051205 02:46:57
Re: Minesweeper MathsIsFun StyleI like that game, it's well designed, and it's addictive when you first get into it. I didn't encounter any bugs when I played it, which I did twice. It hasn't ran slow either. Have you fixed it, or is it my computer just having a good day? Last edited by Roraborealis (20051205 02:47:24) School is practice for the future. Practice makes perfect. But nobody's perfect, so why practice? #8 20051205 07:56:57
Re: Minesweeper MathsIsFun StyleI found it a bit addictive, too! "The physicists defer only to mathematicians, and the mathematicians defer only to God ..." Leon M. Lederman #9 20051205 15:51:11

Re: Minesweeper MathsIsFun StyleYou photoshopped the image just to confuse me, right? "The physicists defer only to mathematicians, and the mathematicians defer only to God ..." Leon M. Lederman #13 20051206 03:07:17
Re: Minesweeper MathsIsFun StyleThe 8x8 grid doesn't have 64 squares. There's a 7x7 grid hidden inside the 8x8 one, so there are actually 113 squares. Why did the vector cross the road? It wanted to be normal. #14 20051206 08:35:33
Re: Minesweeper MathsIsFun StyleYou know what? I figured that out later also ... but when ryos posed his puzzle I just assumed I had made another programming error! (Ryos is tricky!) Re: Minesweeper MathsIsFun StyleYes I'm, er, tricky. That's it! El que pega primero pega dos veces. #16 20051208 17:41:36

Re: Minesweeper MathsIsFun StyleOK, looks like I need to get stuck into revisions ... anyone care to add to the list? "The physicists defer only to mathematicians, and the mathematicians defer only to God ..." Leon M. Lederman #18 20051209 11:56:31

Re: Minesweeper MathsIsFun StyleI have just made a new version of Minesweeper "Risk". Report any bugs here "The physicists defer only to mathematicians, and the mathematicians defer only to God ..." Leon M. Lederman #20 20060421 03:50:03
Re: Minesweeper MathsIsFun StyleThis is more about it visually. I don't know if it is just on my computer, but the flags appear very pale and it can be difficult to see them after marking a square. #21 20060421 07:39:07
Re: Minesweeper MathsIsFun StyleYes, I get that as well. The flags are visible, but very faint. Why did the vector cross the road? It wanted to be normal. #22 20060421 09:19:52
Re: Minesweeper MathsIsFun Style
Bomb choice is random, so strange things can happen, but I did add some code to artificially choose bombs to get the density closer to that requested. It has improved the situation, but not completely. "The physicists defer only to mathematicians, and the mathematicians defer only to God ..." Leon M. Lederman #23 20060421 19:05:38
