Sure, I'd be in Delhi in 2010 AD during the games! I haven't watched any International sports event before, only cricket matches, all of them at Chennai!

From what I've heard, the India Commonweath Games committee (is that right?) is dropping Basketball and including cricket and snooker.

I suppose people could think that ... but even though the Commonwealth Games began in 1930 (the modern era of Olympic Games began in 1896), they were first proposed in 1891.
But the history goes much deeper - there were Olympic-style games held in England since the early 1600s, and Pierre de Coubertin actually visited one of these in 1890 for inspiration.
So I suppose you could say they both have equally valid origins.
