I'm not classifying you as a nerd but most the nerds I knew never had many relationships with women. Most never really had a girlfriend. I knew a few that studied Computer Science and got a girlfriend generally but it's not as common as with other guys I knew. People that like mathematics are considered nerdy and you definitely like it if you're on here.

I have a steady relationship. I am pretty sure girls usually like fairly intelligent men (or in my case, children).

Hi PatternMan;
Maybe they are not trying hard enough.
and you definitely like it if you're on here.

um... do you spend like 3 hours a day doing maths or anything? I remember most girls I dated used to deter me from any of my hobbies unless they liked it too or it made money.

I study math, science, some engineering and do research 13 hours a day.

I am considered nerdy but that does not mean I do not have a significant other.
What you are describing reffers to a internet culture stereotype and I do not think it is true or should be used to take serious conclusions.

I'm not crazy, my mother had me tested.

Who is the child over here? You think you are a child?

Blasphemy!

I like time spent with professors and other students as much as with my significant other.

Hmmm.
While common definitions of loneliness describe it as a state of solitude or being alone, loneliness is actually a state of mind. Loneliness causes people to feel empty, alone and unwanted. People who are lonely often crave human contact, but their state of mind makes it more difficult to form connections with other people.
Loneliness, according to many experts, is not necessarily about being alone.

You must be joking.

No, he is not joking. In this context, I will have to agree with him.
However, there is a lesser chance of feeling lonely for committed people since they have less time to look at their own mind.

Yes, they are kept too busy to realize they are miserable and alone.

Hi ShivamS;
I think what the guy who wrote the quote means is that some people are lonely in a crowd or at party. They are inside themselves a lot which sometimes produces the feeling.
In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them.

Better not to attend parties at all.

I mean you must be joking since you said "I" to not liking mathematics.

Don't worry too much about loneliness. You will become so indulged in your field of study such that the outside factors won't matter much. You will be so busy studying, researching etc (all of that with other students and professors) that you probably won't even have time to partake in partying.
By the way, just to clarify, me and Agnishom (probably) by referring to "significant other" just meant someone we are attached to - not that deep as the dictionary definition (if I recall it).
