Re: CryptoLocker

Hi;

Yes, I have. They are copying another guys work.

In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them.

I agree with you regarding the satisfaction and importance of actually computing some numbers. I can't tell you how often I see time and money wasted because someone didn't bother to run the numbers.

Re: CryptoLocker

Which guy? By the way, if everything on the internet can be tracked, why can't we trace the location of their server?

Re: CryptoLocker

We can not, nor can we crack their code. But do you imagine that what we know is the state of the art? The original guy was tracked as was the latest one. In both cases they were not prosecuted, they have powerful friends.

Re: CryptoLocker

There was a guy in 1990 or so who came up with the very same thing. They tracked him down and he was tried.

I am looking for it. I remember reading about it a long time ago.

Re: CryptoLocker

Okay.

What is your advise to the ordinary people against the CryptoLocker?
(apart from asking them to be less ordinary)

Re: CryptoLocker

Same as always, good AV protection, good firewall, do not open attachments. stay away from questionable sites for a while, backup important data, sandbox the browser...

Re: CryptoLocker

How will I sandbox the browser? With a Virtual Machine?

Re: CryptoLocker

There are two of those that are invulnerable but also some AV's have them now but undoubtedly for Windows, Sandboxie is best.
