Re: Areas Review

Hi,

10 requires calculus for an exact answer. The best that can be done without it is an approximate answer.

We can do it without evaluating integrals.

Find the intersection point of the 30 ft circles   (5*sqrt(14) + 10, 5*sqrt(14) + 10)
Get the angle that point makes with the horizontal.  ( arcsin((5*sqrt(14) - 10)/30) )
Calculate the areas of the sectors and triangles.

"Data! Data! Data!" he cried impatiently. "I can't make bricks without clay."

Re: Areas Review

Hi gAr;

I meant the best I could do without calculus. Thanks for supplying another way!

In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them.
If it ain't broke, fix it until it is.
Always satisfy the Prime Directive of getting the right answer above all else.

Re: Areas Review

Could not update my previous post with a pic, so here it is.

The intersection point D can be found by solving for x :

Re: Areas Review

You mean the blurred ones?
It looks like some random people, just a bait, I guess!

The questions are getting harder, and there're algebra questions in number theory!

See you later, I need some rest.
