Re: An Integral and the Computer

Hi;

You can empirically see that after n = 6 you have the 4 significant digits you require so that is the answer.

Yes. That is what I was planning to do.

Re: An Integral and the Computer

When you get time check this page because your code is slightly off. There are implementations there that will help,

Why should it be off?

Thats just the formula...

Re: An Integral and the Computer

You are probably out of alignment.

Try your formula out on this

f(x) = x^9 between 0 and 10 with 100000 intervals.

You should get 1000000000.75

After you do that I will show you one last thing that is really cute.

Re: An Integral and the Computer

Yes. The correct answer should be 10^9.

Whats wrong with my code?

Re: An Integral and the Computer

That is correct!

This is a plot of what the trapezoid rule is doing for n = 10:

Notice it sometimes went over and sometimes under. The second trapezoid is almost perfect.

Re: An Integral and the Computer

Have a good day at school and study hard.

Post #62 was the cute thing. The program not only does the calculation but shows graphically what it did.

Re: An Integral and the Computer

Thanks. School was good.

Why is that error occuring?

Re: An Integral and the Computer

Hi;

It is possible there is a small problem with your code ( ever seen any code without bugs ?). But for the purposes of this discussion it worked well enough so I am happy.
