No, we do not have GCSE in India. Atleast I don't think so.

For international students, IGCSEs are offered by the CIE and Edexcel exam boards (I think those are the only two, I could be wrong). They are designed to offer qualifications of a similar level to GCSE to students not living in England.

Re: Another coin problem

NEW PROBLEM

There are 150 balls marked in a bag which are marked in a range of 1 to 150. Three random balls are taken out and laid on the table. What is the probability that the three balls are taken out in an ascending order?

Hi Agnishom;

In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them.
If it ain't broke, fix it until it is.
Always satisfy the Prime Directive of getting the right answer above all else.

Re: Another coin problem

I also got something like that

Re: Another coin problem

Amazingly it is the same answer for any n.

Re: Another coin problem

It uses three series to get the answer.

Re: Another coin problem

Hi,

Once we have 3 numbered balls on the table, the sample space is those 3 numbers.
Hence, the probability is 1 / 3!

May be it's more complicated if we are dealing with multisets?

Re: Another coin problem

Thats a brilliant concept but what about the series?

Re: Another coin problem

Thats a brilliant concept

Brilliant and a lot shorter.

but what about the series?

Hmmm, the methods of experimental math never promise the shortest solution! They just promise a solution.

c = 150

To prove for any c it is always 1 / 6 as gAr's method proves.

Re: Another coin problem

Yikes!

Where did you get that formula from?

Re: Another coin problem

From programming. it is rather quite easy to visualize but difficult to explain.

Re: Another coin problem

Like everything else it comes eventually. But you already know how to program.

Re: Another coin problem

Sort of...
Thats how I made that wild guess, but it doesn't help me to point out the exact

Re: Another coin problem

It will take some time before anyone can solve problems well.

Re: Another coin problem

1) Work on problems!

2) Learn how to program well.

3) Learn and use a CAS.

4) Learn an interactive geometry program.
