Ramanujan?

'And fun? If maths is fun, then getting a tooth extraction is fun. A viral infection is fun. Rabies shots are fun.'

'God exists because Mathematics is consistent, and the devil exists because we cannot prove it'

I'm not crazy, my mother had me tested.

That is correct. Hardy and Littlewood went about proving most of the stuff Ramanujan sent them and brought with him.

Was he experimental?

In many ways yes. Some of his discoveries were achieved through experimental methods. It was the same as Appel and Hankens four color proof. I mean it has the same style.

Whats four color proof?

I've heard Ramanujan dreamt of formulas inscribed in the tongue of Lord Narasingha

Hmmm, believe it or not we are back to magnetic levitation and what we are discussing in the other thread.

The four Color theorem I believe was posed by Arthur Cayley and concerns the number of colors necessary to color a planar map with no to countries or region sharing the same color.

Yes, but we do not have to talk about such things for many years.

Hopefully, we are now done with this question.

I am not sure I understood what you mean

About what in particular?

Which question are we done with?

The question of the intersecting chords. Are you satisfied with it?

Yes

But I would like to hear about levitation

Let's talk about what we think we know. You have heard of the Meisner effect?

No, should I google it?

I can give a very loose definition or you can google it. It is surprising that you have not seen it demonstrated in physics class.

Then, describe it, if you please

When substances get very cold the resistance decreases. As you approach absolute zero the resistance drops off to nothing. Current begins to flow in the substance by itself. This is called superconductivity. Follow?

Yes, but such things are not real

Not true, a while back a new type of type of material was discovered or delivered that would superconduct at much higher temperatures. The race with not much success for a room temperature superconductor has been on ever since.

Hi,

Here's a discussion about the same problem : http://www.ocf.berkeley.edu/~wwu/cgi-bi … 1103172669

"Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it, no matter if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense" - Buddha?

"Data! Data! Data!" he cried impatiently. "I can't make bricks without clay."

Hi gAr;

Yes, I know about that one. There is also some at the OEIS.
