12 is correct.

The other problem does not support linearity therefore it is much much tougher.

Is the other one asking for the probability of there being a pair of cards with the same suit?

Yes, same as the other question. Adjacent cards are of the same suit.

How to solve it?

Solve it? By analytical methods, no way!

The methods of mathematics. They actually only solve a very limited set of problems.

Really? I thought they solve all problems.

Then, what are non-analytical methods?

The methods I have been trying to pound into anonimnystefy, zetafunc and you.

Sorry but I do not know what you are talking about

Hmmm, geogebra and programming are two non mathematical methods to get answers to problems when the math fails to.

Really? I thought they solve all problems.

So did I... It seems that way to you now because you are never given a problem in school that they do not solve.

But geogebra does it internally with math and programming

Somewhat but it may also use iterative algorithms and lots of computation. In industry you will face many more problems that do not have nice clean book answers. They still need to be solved!

Lets say a corporation that manufactures metals for aircraft or something connected with the military or defense. Something like that, the math will be very different from what they teach in school. School actually gives students many wrong impressions about what can be solved and what can not.

There is a simple rule that they are hiding from everyone that answers that question.

So what the rule is?

Nope, I live in the US and have never even heard of GCSE. I thought you were talking about non - mathematical methods. I am sorry for the confusion.

As for tests I do not think you will have much problem with anything you put your mind to.

You have GCSE in India?

In England, you take GCSEs when you are 15-16. It is the highest level of compulsory education. GCSE-level maths shouldn't really be a problem for you; if you are able to solve the geometry/number theory/etc. problems you have been posting, it won't be much trouble. The spec is pretty broad as I remember it, there isn't any mechanics but there is a bit of stats. Google GCSE Edexcel Maths (Linear) for an idea of what the level would be like. Typically the course is studied over two years but it can of course be done a lot quicker if you know much of it already.

You can achieve anything from A*, A, B, C, D, E, F, G, U (unclassified). Anything from A*-G is a pass. My maths exam board (Edexcel) had two tiers when I did it, Higher Tier and Foundation Tier. You could achieve an A*-D on the higher paper, and C-G on the lower paper (or U on either).

No, we do not have GCSE in India. Atleast I don't think so.

Zetafunc, thank you for your info.
