Re: Another coin problem

Nky is a nickname we have given to one of our friends.
He is the most amazing guy I have seen till now.

He knows a lot about computers.(not much programming though)
He has an extremely active and creative mind.
He is the one who suggested me to assign positive double digit integers to people we are concerned about.
He is a fantastic guy.

His only unfortunate drawback is his math.
I am afraid about how he has done.
If not good enough, he will have to face problems. sad

Re: Another coin problem

Hi;

Sounds like a great guy. Hope he does well with his math. You may have to help him.

Re: Another coin problem

Yes, I have thought about that

Since December, he comes to our house (almost) every Sunday and my father teaches him a bit.

My father tells that he has got enough intelligence but is lacking attention and concentration somehow

Maybe he just needs some incentive. He might get it a little later in life.

Re: Another coin problem

There was a guy in my class. Everyone thought he was stupid. No one liked him because the teachers constantly had to repeat everything 5 or 6 times for him.

I did not see him for many years until I ran into him one day and he offered to take me to the racetrack. I said okay and watched him placing bets. Because he now had a reason to learn he quickly had mastered more probability that I know. He could calculate the bets and payoffs in his head faster than I could.

People need the question what is this good for answered. Many teachers here can not answer that question!

Re: Another coin problem

This is an amazing story but I doubt how much probability gamblers really use.

I had seen a similar scenario:
Two or three years ago, I had seen my classmates playing handcricket.
I saw that they solved additions 10 times faster than I did.

Nevertheless, Nky is not a stupid guy. Neither do people dislike him.
He is a very helpful person.
Just a month ago, we both stayed up late at night to solve the Computer Science Projects for 5 of our friends.
I was annoyed about it.(Only 2 out of this 5 were extremely close to us)
I asked him why he accepted this idea and he replied that he feels bad to refuse.

One thing I dislike about him is that he has fallen for astrology. Now, he is preaching that concept to 65 as well as Swagatam. And he believes that his wonderful nature is due to him being a Sagittarius.

BTW Gemini are interesting, Alokananda is one of them

Re: Another coin problem

Oh that one! I knew it but not its name. My father told me about it around 5 years ago.

*That* and astrology??

Well, but aren't their bigger things that have more effect on our lives than position of stars.
Maybe we can rule out astrological effects by their order of magnitude.

My mother is as well.

Well, the butterfly effect says that however small the order of magnitude, it matters. So, now it comes down to the question of whether you believe the butterfly effect is true or not...

Well, the butterfly effect says that however small the order of magnitude, it matters.

But there are things with greater magnitude which will matter more

Re: Another coin problem

Things fall into patterns and some of them we know about.

Imagine in ancient times the discovery that when Sirius rises in the sky the Nile river is going to flood.

Some people may have assumed that Sirius was causing the flood... In actuality Sirius was acting like a clock for an annual event. Astrology is something like that.

Re: Another coin problem

Hi Agnishom;

Many of the famous men of the past were astrologers. Many people today are. It does not really matter whether we understand it or not.

I guess the major point of it and I have never heard it phrased this way is: can we divide the human race into twelve personality types based on when they were born?

Re: Another coin problem

A Virgo

You know something?
The standard way of deducting signs based on the month is different from the way some Indians deduce their signs.
The prepare a complex chart of the positions during their birth and let the sign be the place in the grid where the moon is.

According to that logic, I am a Scorpio.
My mother sometimes tell that we should have my chart examined by an expert ( and I am happy that no one is sure about where it is kept)

I did not know that.

I know of a rising sign and a sun sign.
