Re: Can you suggest six names of great mathematicians quickly?Hi Shivam; In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. 90% of mathematicians do not understand 90% of currently published mathematics. I am willing to wager that over 75% of the new words that appeared were nothing more than spelling errors that caught on. #77 2012-10-17 08:44:31
Re: Can you suggest six names of great mathematicians quickly?Supposedly, but Leibniz seems to have a head start on Integral Calc before Newton. Give me a lever long enough and a fulcrum on which to place it, and I shall move the world. -Archimedes My maturity level depends on the people I am around. #78 2012-10-17 10:43:12
Re: Can you suggest six names of great mathematicians quickly?I disagree. Newton had it about 20 years before the big L. He didn't publish though. Newton's fluxion notation was definitely inferior to Leibniz's dy/dx. In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. 90% of mathematicians do not understand 90% of currently published mathematics. I am willing to wager that over 75% of the new words that appeared were nothing more than spelling errors that caught on. #79 2012-10-18 02:18:10
Re: Can you suggest six names of great mathematicians quickly?Leibniz and Newton supposebly shared letters describing their discoveries. But the only reason Newton is so popular is because of the Britishers. Give me a lever long enough and a fulcrum on which to place it, and I shall move the world. -Archimedes My maturity level depends on the people I am around. #80 2012-10-18 02:24:51
Re: Can you suggest six names of great mathematicians quickly?At the time Newton was convinced that Leibniz stole his work. Leibniz made a visit to England... In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. 90% of mathematicians do not understand 90% of currently published mathematics. I am willing to wager that over 75% of the new words that appeared were nothing more than spelling errors that caught on. #81 2012-10-18 02:25:56
Re: Can you suggest six names of great mathematicians quickly?Europe vs British. That is why Europe, at that certain point in time, was much furthur advanced then the latter. Give me a lever long enough and a fulcrum on which to place it, and I shall move the world. -Archimedes My maturity level depends on the people I am around. #82 2012-10-18 02:33:46
Re: Can you suggest six names of great mathematicians quickly?Maybe but although they both discovered Calculus there was no question that Newton was the better problem solver. At the time he was the best in the world. In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. 90% of mathematicians do not understand 90% of currently published mathematics. I am willing to wager that over 75% of the new words that appeared were nothing more than spelling errors that caught on. #83 2012-10-18 02:36:07
Re: Can you suggest six names of great mathematicians quickly?No doubt about that. Just tribulations over who discovered Calculus. Give me a lever long enough and a fulcrum on which to place it, and I shall move the world. -Archimedes My maturity level depends on the people I am around. #84 2012-10-18 02:44:16
Re: Can you suggest six names of great mathematicians quickly?I think they both tarnished their reputations over that silly argument. They lived very far away from each other so the stealing idea seems farfetched. In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. 90% of mathematicians do not understand 90% of currently published mathematics. I am willing to wager that over 75% of the new words that appeared were nothing more than spelling errors that caught on. #85 2012-10-18 02:45:47
Re: Can you suggest six names of great mathematicians quickly?True. However, as I said, they often shared notes concerning their discoveries. Also, do you have to wait 60 seconds between posts, or does the rule no apply to staff? It is so annoying... Give me a lever long enough and a fulcrum on which to place it, and I shall move the world. -Archimedes My maturity level depends on the people I am around. #86 2012-10-18 02:50:57

Re: Can you suggest six names of great mathematicians quickly?Quite lucky. Agnishom, how did your project go? Give me a lever long enough and a fulcrum on which to place it, and I shall move the world. -Archimedes My maturity level depends on the people I am around. #88 2012-10-18 02:59:03
Re: Can you suggest six names of great mathematicians quickly?I have not spoken to Agnishom in a while. In mathematics, you don't understand things. Re: Can you suggest six names of great mathematicians quickly?I think our Project on Heron's Formula was best for it had elements which no other group (I mean no other group without my help) had. E.g., The Proof, The BrahmaGupta Formula, the Isoperimetric Property,etc.
Believe me, this is exactly what she wrote(except for the formatting, ofcourse) Last edited by Agnishom (2012-10-18 13:20:00) 'And fun? If maths is fun, then getting a tooth extraction is fun. Re: Can you suggest six names of great mathematicians quickly?Hi;
She is correct but sometimes criticism is necessary. Sometimes you have to see what is unpleasant about something or someone in order to avoid it yourself. In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. 90% of mathematicians do not understand 90% of currently published mathematics. I am willing to wager that over 75% of the new words that appeared were nothing more than spelling errors that caught on. #93 2012-10-18 13:38:29
Re: Can you suggest six names of great mathematicians quickly?Hi Bobbym;
So if this is their condition, is Environmental Science actually helping us at all? 'And fun? If maths is fun, then getting a tooth extraction is fun. A viral infection is fun. Rabies shots are fun.' 'God exists because Mathematics is consistent, and the devil exists because we cannot prove it' 'The whole person changes, why can't a habit?' -65 #94 2012-10-18 13:44:04

Re: Can you suggest six names of great mathematicians quickly?I believe your country is rated number 4 in the world in carbon dioxide production. Of course, my country ranks number 1. Not a good stat at all.
