Re: Bafflers?

Good! This problem was interesting, but it didn't feel like when I solve one of your probability questions.

The limit operator is just an excuse for doing something you know you can't.

Re: Bafflers?

Probability questions are much harder. Just imagine all those schleps over at the [deleted by admin] stumbling over problems everyday. Having no way to check their answers.

In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them.
Probability is the most important concept in modern science, especially as nobody has the slightest notion what it means.
90% of mathematicians do not understand 90% of currently published mathematics.

Re: Bafflers?

New problem:

An ion cannon can shatter meteors that weigh 2000 kg or more into 4 pieces each of equal weight. It can shatter meteors that are smaller than 2000 kg into 5 pieces of equal weight. Meteors that are equal to or smaller than 10 kg are vaporized. How many shots are required to vaporize a 20000 kg meteor?

Re: Bafflers?

New Problem:

C has this problem, he has the curve x^2-x+1 and a point A on it . He also has two other points on C at (0,0) and B at (0,6). He would like to maximize the ratio of the distance of AC and AB. In other words he is trying to maximize b/a , see the diagram. Where should A and what is the maximum? Of course A must remain on the curve and be in the first quadrant.

A says) 2
B says) How did you get that? I got something entirely different.
C says) Thanks A.
D says) What does it take to do this problem.
E says) I got it.
