wow!!! who would have thought there were so many?
Now lets see.. how many numbers contain all the digits 0-9?
Just kidding!

lol. I'm not sure if you're not getting me or if i'm not getting you but anyway, I was kidding becuase there is an infinite set of numbers that contain all nine digits.
like the set of integers + .0123456789

Re: Words that contain AEIOU, in any order, each vowel exactly once
But Jane's example contains each vowel only once, so it is interesting question with each digit only once.

Re: Words that contain AEIOU, in any order, each vowel exactly once
OOooh. Hehe! I accidently came up with something.
Hmm... wouldn't that just be every permutation of the digits 0-9 multiplied by as many places you can put the decimal? Maybe thats where ganesh came up with 9!x9. hehe!

Re: Words that contain AEIOU, in any order, each vowel exactly once
Ganesh was calculating the total number of 10-digit integers which use each of the digits 0–9 exactly once – i.e. the total number of permutations of 0–9 without the 0 coming first. That’s 10! − 9! = 10×9! − 9! = 9!×(10 − 1) = 9!×9.

Re: Words that contain AEIOU, in any order, each vowel exactly once
hmm...
so what if we consider that you can put a decimal place either before the first digit, or after the last digit.
the only time it would be ok to start with 0 would be if 0 came right before the decimal point, as in 0.123456789 or imediatly after, as in .0123456789

Re: Words that contain AEIOU, in any order, each vowel exactly once
A word on the words above. They are all from Collins English Dictionary (either listed as entry words or grammatical derivations from entry words therein). There are plenty of other “omnivocalic” words not listed in the dictionary I use, such as
gastrocnemius (a muscle in the leg)
(This word was mentioned in one of the semifinals in the previous series of “University Challenge”.) I have also left out proper nouns such as
Mozambique

Re: Words that contain AEIOU, in any order, each vowel exactly once
Thanks to last night’s “University Challenge”, I have found a new word for UOAIE: unsportsmanlike.
The programme also mentions the word “unimportance” for UIOAE. Unfortunately, this word is not in my Collins English Dictionary. (“Unimportant” is in there but not the noun.)

But what a curious compliment it would make: "Truly your unimportance has been exaggerated!"

Isn't unimportance a grammatical derivative of the word unimportant?

Hi stefy,
According to the Collins Scrabble Checker, the noun "unimportance" is a valid word allowed in Scrabble play.
