I hadn't realised you'd done anything to deserve it but never mind, the correct response is flowers or chocolates.
Dr John Gray was (is ?) a relationship councellor. He published this book in 1992. Some people have poured scorn on it but I think he has got it right.
He uses the idea that men and women are like separate species co-existing here on planet Earth. He uses many examples to show how what one gender says (and does) gets misunderstood by the other. And having provided a translation he then goes on to advise how you can improve communication by learning to speak the other's language.
It's well written and quite amusing. And I think it will help you to understand girls. It would be equally beneficial for a girl trying to understand boys. If you can borrow a copy from a library or pick it up cheaply on the net, that would be best as it means it hasn't cost you anything if you don't find it helpful.

Modification to my earlier advice about flowers (or chocolates)
step (i). flowers or chocolates
step (ii) You tell her how sorry you are to have upset her so much and suggest the following way to prevent a recurrance:
step (iii) you see her a lot more often, spend hours getting to know what might upset her and what won't; then you won't make the same mistake again.
