You have the user manual I hope.

Unfortunately, the manual is not available on the Canon website, so it will be harder to advise you.

But it looks much like most scientific calculators so I should be able to help you as and when you need it.

What colour is it?  I'll make a picture of one so I can point at the right buttons.

OK, let's try squaring numbers.

eg 3 squared means 3 x 3

But we will try the square it button.

In the picture I've shown which button this is.

let's do all the square numbers from 1², 2², ........, up to 12².

Use the x² button for these.

Post back the 12 answers.

I have made a screen shot to answer your question about the little 2.

Now let's try doing some square roots.

The square root button does the opposite of the square button.

eg  √144 = 12.

Try it like this.

I'm pretty sure that on your calculator you have to press the √ button first, then 144, then =

Do you get 12?

If so, try square rooting 144, 121, 100, 81, ......1 to see if you get the original numbers back.

Well, you know you are right don't you?  Squaring a square rooting are opposites.

Try this.

Choose any number you like and square it.

Start with that answer and square root it.

You should be back to where you started.

Tell me what number you chose, and what it was when squared, and what that became when square rooted.

The symbols at the top of the page can be copied.

So highlight the ²  ,  then press CTRL and C together to copy.

Go to your text where you want the symbol and press CTRL and V together to paste the ²

You can also copy it from this post in the same way.

Yes, we have had rain for most of the day.  I'm watching Springwatch.  The reserve in Wales has been devastated by the rain.

So what work still needs to be completed?

(1)  Do all corrections in your assignment Q1 and Q2.

(2) Do that fractions question.

(3) Check out the prime number lists.  Are the two lists the same?

One last question:  How are you with times tables?

I have a program that tests you on your tables.  When I have got pupils to use it regularly they gradually get better and better.

I think it will help you as you will be able to do long multiplication more easily.
