Hi anonimnystefy,

You may try linux mint if you don't like ubuntu's interface.

Also, you can boot linux distros from usb flash drives using unetbootin.

Hi gAr

I like Ubuntu's interface. What is Mint's like?

Hi bobbym

I know that you weren't referring to the drink.

Wine allows you to install windows software to linux. I used for a couple of programs and it worked fine.

Hi,

Mint's interface is more like the windose interface which you're used to : http://news.softpedia.com/news/Linux-Mint-13-MATE-Screenshot-Tour-271500.shtml

It's okay. I don't need to boot from a USB flash drive.

Hi bobbym,

No, I did not try the latest ubuntu, 9.10 was the last one I used. After that they messed with the interface I liked.

I started using the ubuntu derivative after that.

What do you think of ubuntu?

They have retained the Gnome 2, I like it.

Other than that, it has most of the softwares and codecs I frequently use, so I can directly boot the flash drive into any computer and use the way I want to.

There are other desktop environments like lcde, xfce etc, but haven't tried those yet.
