No problem, I need to look at how a post really looks to latex it right. Also a space for M users implies multiplication.

The answer, as bobbym said, is 1/36.

Re: Help with probability!

Thank you so much okay I am stuck on one I found the mean which is 2.1, the variance which is 1.2, and the standard deviation of 1.1 than the second part of the question asks me  If you were taking a servay on the programs that were watched on television, how many program diaries would you send to each household in this servay?

Re: Help with probability!

Hi Sandy

What kind of survey is it? What kind of results do you get from it?

Re: Help with probability!

Number of television shows watched which is 1,2,3,4. The probability of these numbers are 0.3,  0.4,  0.12, and 0.16.  If you were taking a survey on the number of programs watched, how many program diaries would you sent out to each house hold.

Hi sandy262727;

I am not following the question. What are we trying to do?

Re: Help with probability!

Based on what? What do you have given in the question?

Re: Help with probability!

Hi;

I am trying to find out the number of program diaries that need to be sent out to each house hold.

To do what? What is a program diary?

Re: Help with probability!

hi sandy262727

As I understand it , your question is this:

A survey is to be carried out to determine how many tv programmes are watched in a number of households.

I'm assuming a program diary is just a form so that people can record their viewing.

In which case just send one per household; why have more than one in a house?

In post #29 you say you have already calculated mean, variance etc.  Is this part of the same question?

Maybe it would help if you were to post the whole question, including the bits you have already done.

Thanks.  smile
