New Question:

A person has a fair die, a fair coin and a 4 color spinner. The spinner has sections marked 1,2,4 and 8. Each with a probability of 1 / 4.

He throws the die and whatever number comes up he flips the coin that many times. He spins the spinner as many times as heads comes up from all the coin flips.What is the probability that the sum of the spinners spins is less than 5?

The were physically grounded to the problem. Meaning they knew where those numbers come from. This can provide insight into the general term.

They popped up in a little app I was working on. Unfortunately, that did not give any clue how to generalize them, so I looked em up!
