### Remembering the +C in integration

My teacher told us a nice way for students to remember to add the +C when integrating with calculus. He said call him Colin and don't forget Colin.

Has any of you teachers or students got any other ideas for how to remember?

I would just tell the students the joke about the integral of 1 over cabin.

It goes something like this:

The prof asks his students if they know what the integral of 1 over cabin is with respect to cabin.

The students answered that it was log cabin.

He said that they were,of course wrong,because the answer is log cabin+C=houseboat.

Hi;

I like definite integration much better. The 2 c's get eaten up.

In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them.
I have the result, but I do not yet know how to get it.
All physicists, and a good many quite respectable mathematicians are contemptuous about proof.

Except I didn't 'find' it there.  I posted it.  Small but significant difference!

I agree it's an old joke ... probably older than you!  But it's one that can only be appreciated by mathematicians and that rather appeals for some reason.
