Re: Generating FunctionsThe limit operator is just an excuse for doing something you know you can't. “It's the subject that nobody knows anything about that we can all talk about!” ― Richard Feynman “Taking a new step, uttering a new word, is what people fear most.” ― Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Crime and Punishment #52 20120430 06:58:11
Re: Generating FunctionsBetter but not right. In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. I have the result, but I do not yet know how to get it. All physicists, and a good many quite respectable mathematicians are contemptuous about proof. #53 20120430 07:01:29
Re: Generating FunctionsOh,I think I get it. We divide by the factorial of the exponent because that is a case when we take "the exponent" number of that letter so we need to divide by "the exponent" factorial. The limit operator is just an excuse for doing something you know you can't. “It's the subject that nobody knows anything about that we can all talk about!” ― Richard Feynman “Taking a new step, uttering a new word, is what people fear most.” ― Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Crime and Punishment #54 20120430 07:05:18
Re: Generating FunctionsTry this one then: In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. I have the result, but I do not yet know how to get it. All physicists, and a good many quite respectable mathematicians are contemptuous about proof. #55 20120430 07:08:35
Re: Generating FunctionsHi bobbym The number of letters really doesn't matter when we are looking for a GF. Re: Generating FunctionsAre you sure? In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. I have the result, but I do not yet know how to get it. All physicists, and a good many quite respectable mathematicians are contemptuous about proof. #57 20120430 07:16:11

Re: Generating FunctionsThat is very good! In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. I have the result, but I do not yet know how to get it. All physicists, and a good many quite respectable mathematicians are contemptuous about proof. #59 20120430 07:23:19
Re: Generating FunctionsWe take the coefficient with x^8. The limit operator is just an excuse for doing something you know you can't. “It's the subject that nobody knows anything about that we can all talk about!” ― Richard Feynman “Taking a new step, uttering a new word, is what people fear most.” ― Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Crime and Punishment #60 20120430 08:51:37
Re: Generating FunctionsWhich is what? In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. I have the result, but I do not yet know how to get it. All physicists, and a good many quite respectable mathematicians are contemptuous about proof. #61 20120430 08:56:09
Re: Generating FunctionsMe getz 9/8. I actually think that it maybe has to be multiplied by 8! The limit operator is just an excuse for doing something you know you can't. “It's the subject that nobody knows anything about that we can all talk about!” ― Richard Feynman “Taking a new step, uttering a new word, is what people fear most.” ― Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Crime and Punishment #62 20120430 08:59:45
Re: Generating FunctionsSo what is your answer? In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. I have the result, but I do not yet know how to get it. All physicists, and a good many quite respectable mathematicians are contemptuous about proof. #63 20120430 09:02:28
Re: Generating FunctionsI am not sure if it is 9 or 9!/8 or neither. The limit operator is just an excuse for doing something you know you can't. “It's the subject that nobody knows anything about that we can all talk about!” ― Richard Feynman “Taking a new step, uttering a new word, is what people fear most.” ― Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Crime and Punishment #64 20120430 09:05:28
Re: Generating FunctionsThe coefficient of x^8 is then multiplied by 8!. In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. I have the result, but I do not yet know how to get it. All physicists, and a good many quite respectable mathematicians are contemptuous about proof. #65 20120430 09:09:53
Re: Generating FunctionsSo 9!/8. The limit operator is just an excuse for doing something you know you can't. “It's the subject that nobody knows anything about that we can all talk about!” ― Richard Feynman “Taking a new step, uttering a new word, is what people fear most.” ― Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Crime and Punishment #66 20120430 09:25:24
Re: Generating FunctionsIn mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. I have the result, but I do not yet know how to get it. All physicists, and a good many quite respectable mathematicians are contemptuous about proof. #67 20120430 09:30:56
Re: Generating FunctionsWell that is what I said, isn't it? The limit operator is just an excuse for doing something you know you can't. “It's the subject that nobody knows anything about that we can all talk about!” ― Richard Feynman “Taking a new step, uttering a new word, is what people fear most.” ― Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Crime and Punishment #68 20120430 09:36:29
Re: Generating FunctionsHi; In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. I have the result, but I do not yet know how to get it. All physicists, and a good many quite respectable mathematicians are contemptuous about proof. #69 20120430 09:46:22
Re: Generating Functions
The limit operator is just an excuse for doing something you know you can't. “It's the subject that nobody knows anything about that we can all talk about!” ― Richard Feynman “Taking a new step, uttering a new word, is what people fear most.” ― Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Crime and Punishment #70 20120430 09:47:38
Re: Generating FunctionsCheck that again. In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. I have the result, but I do not yet know how to get it. All physicists, and a good many quite respectable mathematicians are contemptuous about proof. #71 20120430 09:48:38
Re: Generating FunctionsWhy? The limit operator is just an excuse for doing something you know you can't. “It's the subject that nobody knows anything about that we can all talk about!” ― Richard Feynman “Taking a new step, uttering a new word, is what people fear most.” ― Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Crime and Punishment #72 20120430 09:49:25
Re: Generating FunctionsHmmmm? Because it is incorrect. In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. I have the result, but I do not yet know how to get it. All physicists, and a good many quite respectable mathematicians are contemptuous about proof. #73 20120430 09:56:39
Re: Generating FunctionsIt is absolutely the same as your answer in #66. The limit operator is just an excuse for doing something you know you can't. “It's the subject that nobody knows anything about that we can all talk about!” ― Richard Feynman “Taking a new step, uttering a new word, is what people fear most.” ― Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Crime and Punishment #74 20120430 14:40:28
Re: Generating Functions
I thought you were saying that was the coefficient of x^8. Please be a bit more explanatory in your answers. That will prevent misunderstandings. Had you labelled that the final answer or the no of ways then it would have been clear to me. In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. I have the result, but I do not yet know how to get it. All physicists, and a good many quite respectable mathematicians are contemptuous about proof. #75 20120430 14:51:41
Re: Generating FunctionsOk sorry. So it is correct.
