Re: Bafflers?

I think not.

Re: Bafflers?

But in textbooks all of them respond to hand methods? Do they not?

Re: Bafflers?

Yes they do. They are picked in that manner. Otherwise there would be no point of them teaching the hand methods.

Re: Bafflers?

Yes, but can imagine the surprise of people when they find out that there are integrals that those methods can not touch! Most are shocked when they hear that because they never saw one that was impossible in a textbook! That is what happened to me.

Re: Bafflers?

Yes,hapened to me,too. I am gonna test it in my class at the end of year 12. I will probably give them the 1/log(x) integral.

Re: Bafflers?

So the only moral of the whole story is

1)That there are different types of math problems that require different mindsets.

2)Textbooks give students and teachers a misleading viewpoint about the strength of hand methods.

3) It is imperative to know which type of problem you are working on.

I agree to those. So now we apply this to the other thread?

Re: Bafflers?

Yes, you should abandon the hope that the town problem has definitely got a hand method solution. Most likely, it does not.

Re: Bafflers?

Yes it does. Your question is the same as the 1000 digits of that square root or 100 digits of that integral. Both are done by computer and so is yours.

Re: Bafflers?

Why if you can easily do it by hand?

Re: Bafflers?

Yes, but you only did part of it by hand. It is no different than the square root. It is the same type of problem! Using a hand method is using the wrong tool for the job.

We are talking about the sequence 11,121,1221,12221,...,right?
