Area between the curves problems

(1) Find the area bounded by the curves f(x) = x^3 and f(x) = √x.

(2) Determine the area of the region bounded by x = -y2 + 10 and x = (y - 2)^2.

(3) Find the area between the curves f(x) = √x and f(x) = x^2.
(4) Determine the area of the region bounded by the curve f(x) = 2x^2 + 10, and the line f(x) = 4x + 16, x = -2 and x = 5.

(5) Find the area bounded by the curve f(x) = x^3 - 6x^2 + 11x – 6 and the x-axis
(6) Find the area bounded by the curve y = 8 – x^2 and the line y = 2

I tried and getting different answers help me out

I gave the steps to that problem. Did you understand the answer?

I am getting 5 / 12, what did you get?

Re: Area between the curves problems

For 2)

Determine the area of the region bounded by x = -y2 + 10 and x = (y - 2)^2.

What is -y2 ?

Re: Area between the curves problems

Hi;

Determine the area of the region bounded by x = -y^2 + 10 and x = (y - 2)^2.

Let's do this one together.

Okay, did you graph the functions? This is necessary to see the larger and smaller or the right and left functions. This is just a little bit tricky, I have given my graph below. What does yours look like?

Were you able to find the points of intersection? If not, do you need help with that?

Where did the OP go?

Re: Area between the curves problems

hi i tried with the prob 4 y= 2x^2+10 and line y =4x+16

am getting the ans as 14/3, but in my book it is given as 142/3

How come this comes???

Hi Dharshi;

Did you graph it?

Re: Area between the curves problems

You need from x = - 2 to 5?

Then the book is correct!

Re: Area between the curves problems

(5) Find the area bounded by the curve f(x) = x^3 - 6x^2 + 11x – 6 and the x-axis

What does that . between the 11x and th 6 mean?

Where did he go?
