i just entered "x-x^2/2+x^3/3-x^4/4+x^5/5+...".it spit out log(x+1)

Hmmm. I see you like to prove things. Here is a question that is related in a distant way to what we are doing.

Prove there is a simple function that approximates the curve that the St. Louis Arch is.
