Okay, I haven't heard of the term "bleeding memory" before, so I asked.
Here, I'm not sure whether it's a bug or not. Can it be the OS which is not releasing, on the assumption that data may be required again?

That too, all operating systems are betas at best. They have bugs too.
In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them.
Probability is the most important concept in modern science, especially as nobody has the slightest notion what it means.

I've often wondered it fractals would be useful for plotting stability of feedback systems.
Hopefully I'll re-learn enough in the near future to try to see.
I think I still have an old fractal program around that I used to run on a PC clone. I would start the program before bed and check it in the morning!
