Then I really cannot solve the problem without knowing in which direction the ball was thrown. Was it thrown upwards, downwards or horizontally? In my notes I have this exact problem. There it says it is thrown downward towards the ground.

Above the ground refers to the cliff. Launches might mean upward.

i did it  her way but like i submitted number 20 to her like this

-4.9t2 + 24.5t + 117.6 = 49

117.6 + 24.5t + -4.9t2 = 49

117.6 + -49 + 24.5t + -4.9t2 = 49 + -49

117.6 + -49 = 68.6
68.6 + 24.5t + -4.9t2 = 49 + -49

49 + -49 = 0
68.6 + 24.5t + -4.9t2 = 0

-14 + -5t + t2 = 0

-14 + -5t + 14 + t2 = 0 + 14

-14 + 14 + -5t + t2 = 0 + 14

-14 + 14 = 0
0 + -5t + t2 = 0 + 14
-5t + t2 = 0 + 14

0 + 14 = 14
-5t + t2 = 14

.

-5t + 6.25 + t2 = 14 + 6.25

6.25 + -5t + t2 = 14 + 6.25

14 + 6.25 = 20.25
6.25 + -5t + t2 = 20.25

(t + -2.5)(t + -2.5) = 20.25

yup i got that and i showed her how i combined the like terms but why is she still asking This step looks good. 117.6 + -49 + 24.5t + -4.9t2 = 49 + -49.  What do you get when you combine like terms from this? shes confusing me

shes asking to combine like terms but i already combined them and got a -2 and a 7
