Exponential integralHi, "Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it, no matter if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense" - Buddha? "Data! Data! Data!" he cried impatiently. "I can't make bricks without clay." #2 2011-07-25 20:42:28
Re: Exponential integralHi gAr; In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. Probability is the most important concept in modern science, especially as nobody has the slightest notion what it means. 90% of mathematicians do not understand 90% of currently published mathematics. #3 2011-07-25 20:53:17

Re: Exponential integralNothing yet gAr. In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. Probability is the most important concept in modern science, especially as nobody has the slightest notion what it means. 90% of mathematicians do not understand 90% of currently published mathematics. #7 2011-07-25 21:21:40
Re: Exponential integralOkay, no problem. I tried expanding, substitution etc., but anyway not an easy one. "Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it, no matter if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense" - Buddha? "Data! Data! Data!" he cried impatiently. "I can't make bricks without clay." #8 2011-07-25 21:30:38
Re: Exponential integralHi gAr; The above integral does not have a closed form according to Table of Integrals, Series and Products 7th edition p 390. They give a series for the answer, so no closed form. It is easy to see that your integral can be split into 2 integrals that are of that same form. In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. Probability is the most important concept in modern science, especially as nobody has the slightest notion what it means. 90% of mathematicians do not understand 90% of currently published mathematics. #9 2011-07-25 21:40:19

Re: Exponential integralWhat I do not like is that when I split the numerator, suddenly the first integral no longer converges. That x in the denominator is now a problem. In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. Probability is the most important concept in modern science, especially as nobody has the slightest notion what it means. 90% of mathematicians do not understand 90% of currently published mathematics. #13 2011-07-25 21:54:41
Re: Exponential integralYes, that's a big problem. "Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it, no matter if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense" - Buddha? "Data! Data! Data!" he cried impatiently. "I can't make bricks without clay." #14 2011-07-25 22:13:32
Re: Exponential integralHi; I need to put beta = 0 but there are conditions. Yikes! I just saw it now, it zeroes the argument of the exponential integral! Beta can not be 0. In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. Probability is the most important concept in modern science, especially as nobody has the slightest notion what it means. 90% of mathematicians do not understand 90% of currently published mathematics. #15 2011-07-25 22:19:01
Re: Exponential integralIs there any of the form: ? "Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it, no matter if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense" - Buddha? "Data! Data! Data!" he cried impatiently. "I can't make bricks without clay." #16 2011-07-25 22:21:50
Re: Exponential integralI am still looking, if it does, then you could use it. A table is a valid way to do an integration. In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. Probability is the most important concept in modern science, especially as nobody has the slightest notion what it means. 90% of mathematicians do not understand 90% of currently published mathematics. #17 2011-07-25 22:28:22
Re: Exponential integralComputationally, it's easy to verify. But I can't derive it. "Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it, no matter if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense" - Buddha? "Data! Data! Data!" he cried impatiently. "I can't make bricks without clay." #18 2011-07-25 22:30:23
Re: Exponential integralBingo! In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. Re: Exponential integralThat's cool! "Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it, no matter if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense" - Buddha? "Data! Data! Re: Exponential integralHmmm, it would be nice if I could get a way to derive it. "Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it, no matter if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense" - Buddha? "Data! Data! Data!" he cried impatiently. "I can't make bricks without clay." #22 2011-07-25 23:10:26

Re: Exponential integralYeah, but is it a good way to solve a problem?! "Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it, no matter if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense" - Buddha? "Data! Data! Data!" he cried impatiently. "I can't make bricks without clay." #24 2011-07-25 23:17:04
Re: Exponential integralDepends. If you are working on something larger than you do not want to get tied up on a tiny detail. Here, it is not helpful to use a table or a package. But what else is there? In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. Probability is the most important concept in modern science, especially as nobody has the slightest notion what it means. 90% of mathematicians do not understand 90% of currently published mathematics. #25 2011-07-25 23:23:06
Re: Exponential integralEvaluating that product would solve the integral.
