Patents!

I don't seem to understand the patent system!
http://www.osnews.com/story/24924/Micro … Phone_Sold

What would happen if samsung disagrees to give even a penny?
Who knows how much of open source code microsoft has stolen?

I guess the best way is to sell smartphones without OS preinstalled, and customers intalling it themselves.
Who can sue whom then?

Re: Patents!

Hi;

Mic**ro$-of**t  has and always will steal everything that is not riveted down. Besides from legal malarkey they have been known to act like thugs when they thought they could. Samsung is no better, they will just pass the cost of this to the consumer, while they both prosper.

Re: Patents!

Hi gAr;

How about the biggest rule of them all, "might makes right." By the time this is over their will be tons of patents issued all in their favor. A whole bunch of judges and politicians will be able to buy that yacht they always wanted.

but then, M***ic**ro$--oft can claim the smaller companies validated the patent claims, even though they simply lacked the funds to take this to court.

A precedent has been set. Judges will follow it, they have the excuse that it is precedent. The cases will be tried in states where M***ic**ro$--oft has elected the local politicians and whom have appointed the judges. Samsung will not care, the consumer will pay the extortion money.

Re: Patents!

Hi bobbym,

Okay.
There's a local proverb, which roughly translates to: "A child is a witness to the thief."

Anyway, I won't be owning a smartphone, yet couldn't restrain myself from commenting watching that stupidity!

Patents must not be transferable.
All of them will finally end up with greedy people of microsoft and oracle!

Hi gAr;

Agreed!

One thing I never understood. How do these people with billions of dollars or pounds get motivated to go to work every day?

Re: Patents!

Yes!
I doubt they ever work, they only hire lawyers and wait for a prey!

Plunder in billions, and donate millions as "philanthropy"

Re: Patents!

The millions are all tax deductible so actually they donate nothing.
