Hi bobbym,

Thank you!

Hi gAr;

Do not mention it. I will have a much tougher one for you after you rest. Maybe we will have some math to discuss afterwards.

Ok, I'll be online for about 45 minutes more, then it's my EOD.

Yes, I'm always ready!
But we'll discuss it (my)tomorrow, Sometimes dreams help!

Re: Is this cool with you?

New Problem!

Can you find any solution of:

with a,b,c,d all positive and different and all integers.

A says) Yes, I can and without a computer again!
B says) My method is better because it only uses algebra.
C says) I did not get any answers in integers. I do not think there is one.
D says) You are right C there are no solutions. Imagine we are right and the two geniuses are wrong!

Can you find an answer? Can you find A or B's idea for full credit?

Ah, I was thinking about the possibility when you posted the question.
I'll try again anyway.

This one will require a trick or two. Do not worry until yesterday I did not know how.

Re: Is this cool with you?

New Problem!

This one actually came up in conversation. My brother overheard this one at the University. Is 3,4,5 the only positive pythagorean triplet of consecutive integers?

A says) I have marvelous proof of that but the internet is too small to contain it. It starts like this Let G be a metric and let g be the group of all possible metrics, so we

B says) Hold on A.

C says) Mine is shorter but it only works for n < 8.

D says) I have a shorter proof.

A says) I do not think so and by the way, B's proof is garbage.

Re: Is this cool with you?

New problem.

A list of numbers of length 3n is divided into 3 lists of length n. What is the probability that the 3 largest numbers are spread out as 1 in each list?

A says) I got it!
B says) Me too!
C says) Hold it, I need more time...
D says) It is (n / 3) of course.

Re: Is this cool with you?

I am okay, thanks.

What do you get when n = 9? I am getting 81 / 325.

Re: Is this cool with you?

I too get 81/325 for n=9.
And I get the limiting probabiity 2/9
