Long MultiplicationA short page on Long Multiplication "The physicists defer only to mathematicians, and the mathematicians defer only to God ..." - Leon M. Lederman #2 2007-08-07 13:06:25
Re: Long Multiplicationlooks good to me! What are you using to make those litle videos? A logarithm is just a misspelled algorithm. #3 2007-08-07 13:29:19
Re: Long MultiplicationA homegrown "recorder" and "player" in flash. "The physicists defer only to mathematicians, and the mathematicians defer only to God ..." - Leon M. Lederman #4 2010-12-21 12:57:20
Re: Long MultiplicationI made a video on long multiplication, a method I made up from something suggested in 5th grade to me. Imagine for a moment that even an earthworm may possess a love of self and a love of others. #5 2010-12-21 16:55:30
Re: Long MultiplicationHi John E. Franklin; In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. 90% of mathematicians do not understand 90% of currently published mathematics. I am willing to wager that over 75% of the new words that appeared were nothing more than spelling errors that caught on. #6 2010-12-21 17:57:24
Re: Long MultiplicationWhat an interesting method! It seems quicker than the normal method, though not as transparent. "The physicists defer only to mathematicians, and the mathematicians defer only to God ..." - Leon M. Lederman #7 2010-12-28 08:10:42
Re: Long MultiplicationThanks for the comments guys!! Happy ice skating at the arena!! Imagine for a moment that even an earthworm may possess a love of self and a love of others. #8 2010-12-28 16:40:04
Re: Long MultiplicationIs there any pizza left? In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. 90% of mathematicians do not understand 90% of currently published mathematics. Re: Long MultiplicationSorry, no pizza left immediately available unless we go out to the pizza parlor, which would taste even better. I'd like to see a pizza-math video in the restaurant next!! Imagine for a moment that even an earthworm may possess a love of self and a love of others. #10 2011-01-24 15:29:20
Re: Long MultiplicationLong multiplication is the method of multiplication that is commonly taught to elementary school students throughout the world. It can be used on two numbers of arbitrarily large size or number of decimal digits. The numbers to be multiplied are placed vertically over one another with their least significant digits aligned. The top number is named the multiplicand and the lower number is the multiplier. The result of the multiplication is the product.
