New Page DesignI have been working on a new page design: http://www.mathsisfun.com/test2.html "The physicists defer only to mathematicians, and the mathematicians defer only to God ..." - Leon M. Lederman #2 2010-10-15 14:16:09
Re: New Page Design
That quote is part of what the publishers latin is derived from.
It looks larger, gives the illusion of more space. I like it but it somehow looks like something is left out...
The clouds contribute to the above observation about more space. In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. 90% of mathematicians do not understand 90% of currently published mathematics. I am willing to wager that over 75% of the new words that appeared were nothing more than spelling errors that caught on. #3 2010-10-15 16:47:35
Re: New Page DesignThanks!
What is left out is lots of flashing ads, sidebars, popups and enticements to subscribe. You just feel lost without all the distractions "The physicists defer only to mathematicians, and the mathematicians defer only to God ..." - Leon M. Lederman #4 2010-10-15 18:59:31

So you don't like this one? "The physicists defer only to mathematicians, and the mathematicians defer only to God ..." - Leon M. Lederman #7 2010-10-17 08:46:24

Good point. Changed image ... use refresh (twice maybe). "The physicists defer only to mathematicians, and the mathematicians defer only to God ..." - Leon M. Lederman #12 2010-10-19 01:18:48

Re: New Page DesignHi bob and MIF can listen also;
I am glad it did not. But you are implying that there is something to stop people. In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. 90% of mathematicians do not understand 90% of currently published mathematics. I am willing to wager that over 75% of the new words that appeared were nothing more than spelling errors that caught on. #15 2010-10-19 08:47:24
Re: New Page DesignThanks Bob and Bobby, this is very helpful. Everyone's opinion is being considered ... I even rope in people who happen to pass near my computer! "The physicists defer only to mathematicians, and the mathematicians defer only to God ..." - Leon M. Lederman #16 2010-10-19 16:28:20
Re: New Page DesignHi bob and MIF;
Yep, I forgot to preface post #14 with the words in my opinion. You are in the unenviable spot of having to consider everyone's feelings. Remember and this is a tired cliche, you cannot satisfy everybody. Site has almost 80 000 members and that is a good argument against any redesign at all.
Nope, I cannot. When I see it, it makes me want to do group theory. So it must be powerful. How about having it rotate, page does seem to need some motion, the overhead might be high though. In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. 90% of mathematicians do not understand 90% of currently published mathematics. I am willing to wager that over 75% of the new words that appeared were nothing more than spelling errors that caught on. #17 2010-10-20 01:12:59
Re: New Page DesignWow, I love the way the clouds fade just after the big picture. And if you are definately going to change it without changing the Geometric Shape, I'd go for it, because it looks so much tidier with the links on the left missing and on the top instead. I was having a look for them though and it took me a second to see where they had moved to, because they look a tiny bit like adverts. Re: New Page DesignOhh, I really like that too, that's a great idea Bob =] Everyone will recognise him and get the idea even without the bubble - I do like the bubble, by the way. Although I have to say I don't know who he is either. He looks clever though! School is practice for the future. Practice makes perfect.
