probability

let N be a positive integer and let f(x)=c2^x, x =1,2,....n
                                                    =0 elsewhere
find the value of c such that f(x) is a probability function

Re: probability

Hi samuel baffoe;

Some questions, is x a discrete random variable? Is it a probability mass function or probability density function,
and do you know why? For instance, this is the pmf of a fair die.

The PDF would require an integration and then a normalization. The PMF would require a
summation (not commonly taught in schools).

What is this c2^x?

Is it

or

Book you are working out of?

In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them.
If it ain't broke, fix it until it is.
Always satisfy the Prime Directive of getting the right answer above all else.

Re: probability

Just solve
∑f(x)=1

X'(y-Xβ)=0
