Absolute Value Formula

Can anyone tell me if there's any formula for calculating |a+b| (for All a & b) or any such expression?
I went through a similar post of Janefairfax or somebody where absolute values formulas were there for some programming purposes...

Don't know where to find that post..
Plz help me!

Re: Absolute Value Formula

If you're not using this for programming, then

works.

"In the real world, this would be a problem.  But in mathematics, we can just define a place where this problem doesn't exist.  So we'll go ahead and do that now..."
