Re: What do you think?Hi Bobby,
Is close? Last edited by phrontister (2010-01-23 03:59:38) "The good news about computers is that they do what you tell them to do. The bad news is that they do what you tell them to do." - Ted Nelson #77 2010-01-23 04:41:55
Re: What do you think?
Are you sure the equation is correct, Bobby? I tried s=7, and that ended up way off. "The good news about computers is that they do what you tell them to do. The bad news is that they do what you tell them to do." - Ted Nelson #78 2010-01-23 11:12:56
Re: What do you think? It only works when |s| < 1. Otherwise the right hand side doesn't converge. Why did the vector cross the road? It wanted to be normal. #79 2010-01-23 12:26:17
Re: What do you think?Hi phrontister; In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. Probability is the most important concept in modern science, especially as nobody has the slightest notion what it means. 90% of mathematicians do not understand 90% of currently published mathematics. #80 2010-01-23 13:35:07

Re: What do you think?Actually, nothing proper about it at all. Your method using interval bisection is what I wanted to use, I was quite unhappy when I found there was an algebraic way to do it. On another forum a bunch of academicians are pounding my type for finding other ways to do things. I am heavily outnumbered over there and in a rebellious frame of mind so I would have loved to have used your method. In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them.
