Greetings

Hi,
I am a teen software engineer/programmer and one of the important academic things that I have to learn for that is mathematics.

I currently go to a charter school so the education there is like no other school I've been to. Right now, they're rechartering the school but might fail this year (I'll have to look at another school to go to) cause they're losing money.

Math status [as of 3/16]

Re: Greetings

Welcome.

I assume [X] means you have no knowledge at all on the subject?

If so, we can get you started. smile

I hope you learn something useful during your time here at Maths Is Fun.

Re: Greetings

Hi MrRHQ,
I hope you enjoy being here, and also learn the branches of Mathematics you aren't too familar with, as Devantè mentioned in the earlier post.

Re: Greetings

Hiya MrRHQ,

I'm learning too!

3y + 4x = 7yx

Am I right? I hope so! I might not know as much as... anyone here BUT I hope I can learn off of you! ^_^

Re: Greetings

3y + 4x = 3y + 4x, you can't simplify that.

But if you were multiplying them, it would be;

4x × 3y = 12xy

Re: Greetings

3y + 4x is a binomial, right?
The two coefficients cannot factor so it's in it's simplest form. In other words, I can't divide by 3 or 4 to get a simplified answer.

Re: Greetings

so what Dev is saying is;

3y + 4x = 3y + 4x

That makes no sence. Ok how about;

2x + -3 = -6x

Re: Greetings

2x + -3 = -6x

Subtract 2x.

-3 = -8x

divide by -8.

x= 3/8

Re: Greetings

Why are we subtracting the 2x?

Re: Greetings

hi MrRHQ,

Well, calculus is what you're missing pretty much eh?  I can tell you that some of the solutions to the other questions are in calculus too.  I learned calculus in some depth because I took engineering in university.  Physics relies heavily on calculus and engineering on physics, so...

Get yourself a good text on calculus and you'll take off!  There are some weird concepts in there, but once you get them its really fun.  Try going to your library and doing a title search for "Introduction to Calculus" tongue Guess that's obvious...  But really, the quality of calculus texts these days is great, and there are plenty of intro books.  Given your rich basis, you'll have no problems.
